Course Structure

The scientific program starts on September 17 in the morning and ends on September 21 in the evening. Lectures and seminars will be held in the morning and late afternoon so as to leave plenty of time for free discussion, which is an important part of the Erice school. The early afternoons are reserved for private activities, special seminars, working groups, workshops, etc.

Presentations

Stand-alone capabilities for projecting powerpoint or pdf talks are available at the lecture hall. The presentations should preferentially be uploaded via memory stick. It is also possible to use personal laptops.

The talks will be made available online. There will be no proceedings.

Excursion

We will have an excursion to the Cloister and the Duomo in Monreale with the largest and perhaps the nicest mosaics and with the tombs of the Normanic kings Roger I and II and William I and II. In Palermo we will visit the Palazzo dei Normani with the Capella Palatina. Those who like may also visit the catacombi of the Convento dei Cappuccini with about 2000 preserved dead persons standing and sitting. It is also a must to visit the Cathedral in Palermo with the tombs of Federico secondo (Frederick II; stupor mundi), Holy Roman Emperor and king of both of Sicilies (1194 to 1250) and his father Henry VI, his mother Constance and his first wife.
