This course will discuss modern topics in the physics of exotic nuclei, with a focus on theory but also including some experimental methods.   1. Nuclear forces: status and open problems
  2. Precision experiments and ab-initio theory for light nuclei
  3. Medium-mass nuclei: shell structure, towards and beyond the driplines, island of inversion, connections to nuclear forces
  4. Density functional theory across the nuclear chart and density matrix expansion
